Our Vision

To provide a Kura Kaupapa Māori whose language of instruction and play is Te Reo Māori, whose operations are grounded in Te Aho Matua, uniquely, Taranakitanga, and who, together with the whānau and Iwi of our tamariki will strive to ensure that we produce young people:

Our Mission

Our Kura values reflect the tīkanga and kawa of Ngāti Ruanui, and will acknowledge, learn and understand the tīkanga and kawa of all iwi of Taranaki.

The tīkanga and kawa observed in Hawera will be Ngāti Ruanui.  TKKM ō Ngāti Ruanui will develop an in depth knowledge and understanding of the tīkanga and kawa of the wider Taranaki Iwi

What make our Kura unique?

Over the past three years, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ō Ngāti Ruanui has undergone a shift in mindset towards a more digital learning environment. This positive adaptation has been embraced by Kaiako and whānau, resulting in progress and improved outcomes for tamariki. With the right tools and attitude, we have been able to make great strides in our digital transformation.

Our classrooms, library, and wharenui are all equipped with smart TVs, and the majority of children use Chromebooks. We are currently exploring the use of tablets for Y1-2 classes, while Y3-13 students have access to Chromebooks. Every child in the Kura is provided with a Kura email account upon enrolment, and we are a Google School using G-Suite and Google Classrooms.

TAMOP-Y8-10 now has a more specific curriculum focus, similar to that of the wharekura. Each kaiako is assigned a specific area of teaching, such as pangarau, hauora, or English. This approach allows kaiako to focus on their strengths and passions, ensuring that tamariki progress positively through their learning levels at a manageable, consistent, challenging, and stimulating pace. By the end of their time in TAMOP, tamariki will have given back to their teina and gained a greater awareness of their educational goals.

In response to the advent of vocational pathways, Te Rau Piata Y11-13 has developed a more refined educational pathway and focus. While we recognize that expecting young teenagers to know and understand their career goals is premature, we aim to provide them with the necessary tools to progress into their chosen careers. Our wharekura has developed a learning program that allows tamariki to participate in all kura kaupapa and initiatives. For the past five years, we have achieved a 100% pass rate in all NCEA levels, and in 2019, our first graduates attained University entrance.

Our kaiako work collaboratively to ensure that our program is sound, varied, challenging, and stimulating. We recognize that our digital focus and resources are just a tool, but we have seen a positive change in our tamariki, staff, and whānau as a result.
